To let you know how the smart check meter works and to decide if it is a good idea for you. We have prepared our frequently asked questions (FAQs). The answers below will help you determine if the smart check meter is right for you
When we say “allocate units”, it does NOT mean units are transferred. Units can not be transferred from a prepaid meter to any device.
So, how does the Smart Check Meter work?
The Smart Check Meter does not collect units. It only controls how much unit a flat can use from the same central meter.
When you allocate units to your flat: Light comes on, It works only for the units you paid for. Once your units finish, your light goes off automatically. If you want light again, you recharge and allocate again.
Think of it like water, You and your neighbours share one water tank (prepaid meter)
Some people use plenty of water (electricity)
Some don’t like to buy water (recharge)
Some finish water (units) and keep quiet
Now imagine everybody has a tap with a timer (that’s where the check meter comes in)
If you pay for 1 litre, (unit) you get 1 litre (unit)
If you pay for 2 litres, (units)you get 2 litres (units)
Once your litre (units) finish, water (light) stops
Anybody that didn’t buy water (recharge) won’t get anything
Everybody is still using one tank. (Prepaid meter)
For landlords, you can buy one or more to isolate a tenant or some tenants who don’t respond to payment.
What this means: The tenants for whom the device is installed will not have light until they recharge on the prepaid meter, and it is allocated to their check meters. Other tenants who remain on the prepaid meter won’t be affected.
Also, if you’re considering getting a separate meter for the pumping machine, that wouldn’t be necessary. A smart check meter will serve well.
For tenants: No, buying just one among other neighbours who don’t respond to payment doesn’t solve any problem
What this means: the other neighbours will still use your units except if you all have it.
What to do? Convince the other neighbours or the landlord to make sure everyone has a separate smart check meter
